Hantavirus belongs to Bunyaviridae. It is a negative strand RNA virus with enveloped segments. Its genome consists of three fragments, L, M and S, encoding L polymerase protein, G1 and G2 glycoprotein, and nuclear protein, respectively.
Hantavirus is not a single virus, but a virus genus that includes more than 21 viruses and more than 30 genotypes. Known in China as epidemic hemorrhagic fever, the hemorrhagic fever caused by Hantavirus is an animal-borne disease with no human-to-human transmission.
Hantavirus can be of two kinds: it causes Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) and the other causes hemorrhagic fever with Hantavirus renal syndrome (HFRS).
