The Leishmania IgG/IgM Rapid Test kit is a side-flow immunoassay for simultaneous detection of both IgG and IgM to detect and differentiate Leishmania Donovani (Leishmania Donovani), visceral Leishmaniasis pathogenic protozoa subspecies in human serum, plasma or whole blood. It is intended to be used as a screening test and as a diagnostic aid for visceral leishmaniasis disease. Any reactive specimen that is rapidly tested using the Leishmania IgG/IgM combination must be confirmed using an alternative test method. Visceral leishmaniasis or Kara-azar disease is a disseminated infection caused by several subspecies of Lactobacillus Donovani. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that the disease affects about 12 million people in 88 countries. It is transmitted to humans through biting sand flies, which acquire the infection by feeding on infected animals. Although it is a disease found in poor countries, in southern Europe it has become a major opportunistic infection for people with AIDS. Identification of L. Donovani from blood, bone marrow, liver, lymph nodes, or spleen provides a definitive means of diagnosis. Serological detection of anti-L. Donovani IgM has been found to be an excellent marker of acute visceral leishmaniasis. Tests used clinically include ELISA, fluorescent antibody or direct agglutination tests 4-5. Recently, the sensitivity and specificity of Lactobacillus Donovani specific proteins have been significantly improved in experiments. The combined IgG/IgM Rapid test for Leishmania is a recombinant protein-based serological test that detects both IgG and IgM antibodies to Lactobacillus Donovani. The test provides reliable results in 15 minutes without any instruments.
