The International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) has announced that the official classification of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) is called severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on the same day that the official name of the disease caused by this virus is COVID-19.
