Serological antibody test (including IgM and IgG antibody test) has a certain sensitivity and specificity, not only for symptomatic patients, but also can detect no skin lesions, asymptomatic patients. After the initial infection with HSV-2, the serum antibodies rise to the peak within 4 to 6 weeks, the specific IgM antibodies produced in the early stage are transient, and the IgG appears slightly later and persists for a longer time. In addition, some patients have IgG antibodies in their bodies, and when they relapse or reinfection, they do not produce IgM antibodies, so IgG antibodies are generally tested.
