Legionella pneumophila antigen rapid test kit is a side flow chromatograph used for qualitative detection of Legionella pneumophila in human urine immunoassay, suitable for the auxiliary diagnosis of Legionella pneumophila infection. The Legion’s deaths, named after the 1976 American Legion outbreak at the Philadelphia Convention, are caused by Legionella pneumophila, which is characterized by pneumonia as an acute febrile respiratory illness, ranging in severity from mild to fatal. The disease occurs in both endemic and endemic forms and in sporadic cases with symptoms that are not clinically distinguishable from other respiratory infections. An estimated 25,000 to 1,000,000 Legionella infections occur in the United States each year. The resulting mortality rates range from 25% to 40%, and can be reduced very early if the disease is diagnosed quickly and given appropriate antimicrobial treatment. Known risk factors include immunosuppression, smoking, alcohol consumption, and concomitant lung disease. The young and the elderly are particularly susceptible. Legionella pneumophila accounts for 80-90% of reported cases of Legionella infection with serogroup 1 accounting for more than 70% of all legionella diseases. Current laboratory tests for pneumonia are caused by Legionella pneumophila and require respiratory specimens (e.g. sputum coughs, bronchial flushes, transtracheal aspirates, lung biopsies) or paired serum (acute and convalescence) for an accurate diagnosis.
